Fall Bootie Roundup

Fall booties are, like scented candles and pumpkin spice lattes, part of the reason that I look forward to autumn all year. We get lucky that fall booties can live for a long time in our closets–picks in suede and leather in black or brown are always in style.

This fall, I think it’s about the almost-flat and the chunky heels. (Obviously I have to put a pair of stilettos in the mix, though–I could never forgive myself for leaving them out.) Block heels and strappy cage-like fall booties also make the list, although I’m not huge on the recent trend of open-toe booties. (What’s the point? At best, you wear them like four times before the weather gets gross, and at worst you’re spotted wearing stockings with open-toe shoes in public. This is not a win-win situation.) Metallic booties and metal detailing are popular this year, as are velvet and jewel-like embellishments. As always, I take the opportunity to turn leopard print into a neutral with my fall booties.

What’s for certain, though? Quit trying to make wedge boots happen. They’re not going to happen. (JK–wear them if you want to. You probably just won’t see many of them around this year.)
