New Year’s Resolutions

Well folks, it’s that time of year again. It’s time to disclose (and promptly forget) your new year’s resolutions. I’m hoping that by sticking my new year’s resolutions in a blog post that bunches of people can see, I’ll feel at least a little bit more accountability to sticking to the resolution.

Unlikely, but we’ll see.

Eat better.

What a cliche, right? Even so, it needs to happen. Maybe this means starting a daily food journal, or maybe this means eating a balanced meal every day. Whatever happens, it’ll be in pursuit of the next goal…

Become more financially savvy.

This one is going to be documented externally, thanks to Man Repeller! It’ll be one goal per month for 12 months. The goals may change a little bit from this first list–revisions are welcome (and, more than likely, necessary).

Find a favorite bar.

Also find a favorite cup of coffee and figure out the perfect Saturday. Really take the time to find what makes you happy–and write it down.

Volunteer more.

Or go to church, or do something to make friends on the weekends. Stop being a shut-in and a contrarian, you lame git.

Take care of yourself, dammit.

Read more–you’ve got enough unread books in your tiny home to actually make good on this resolution. Take more photos. Take a friggin’ walk. Do the things that you know you love and don’t just waste your time on Netflix. (Watch Mad Men and Westworld again, though. That’s a perfectly acceptable use of time.)

Make a perfect cup of coffee.

This is entirely self explanatory.

As I write out my new year’s resolutions, I think it’s important to keep in mind that not everything has to be started from scratch. As I said last week, there were lots of things to be proud of in 2016. It’s just a matter of reflecting and improving. 2017, I hope you’re awesome.

What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
